ARBIE
Terms of Service · v1.0 · in force 4 September 2026
These terms govern your use of Arbie (arbie.com.au), operated from Australia ("we", "us"). By creating an account, or by continuing to use Arbie after this version takes effect, you agree to them.
Arbie is a software tool for sports-data analysis, hedging and personal bet tracking. It surfaces pricing from a third-party odds feed and from the Betfair exchange, performs calculations you configure, keeps records of the activity you enter, and places lay bets on your own Betfair account as described in section 2. Arbie:
This is the section that matters most. Read it before you connect Betfair.
Arbie places real bets on your own Betfair account. To connect, you enter your Betfair username, your Betfair password and your own Betfair application key into a form in Arbie, and all three are sent to our server. We use the password once, then and there, to log in to Betfair as you — and then discard it. Your Betfair password is never stored, and there is nowhere in Arbie it can be read back from. What we keep is your username, your application key, and the session token Betfair gives back, sealed with server-side encryption. A background process refreshes that token so the connection stays live without you logging in again; if it drops completely, you enter your password once more to reconnect.
Most of those bets happen because you pressed a button. The Arm button on the board and the bonus converter each place a lay on your Betfair account at the moment you confirm the review sheet, at the price and size that sheet shows you.
The "Sweep the remainder" control, on a part-matched position, is the exception among the buttons. You press it, so it is still your decision — but it does not lay at a price you were shown. It reads the exchange price at the moment you confirm and works out the size then, which is why the button tells you it lays "at the current best price". The same limits described below apply to it: your caps, and the same 8 per cent refusal if the price has moved against you.
Two things Arbie places without asking you first. The first is described immediately below; the second is racing auto-lay, at the end of this section.
Completing a part-matched hedge near the start of an event. When the lay you asked for is only part matched, the unmatched part rests on the exchange. A background process, which runs whether or not you are signed in, checks those resting orders every 25 seconds. From about a minute before the event starts — and after it has started, if the order is still unmatched — it will cancel what is resting and place a new lay for you at whatever the exchange price is at that moment, for a size it works out then. You do not see or approve that price or that size beforehand. It can happen while you are asleep, offline, or with Arbie closed. It runs for every member, and there is no setting that switches off this step alone.
What it will not do, and the checks it makes first:
How to stop it. Settings → Stop placement stops Arbie starting any new bet on your Betfair account: the Arm button, the bonus converter, the automatic completion above, and racing auto-lay. It is all or nothing — you cannot switch off only the automatic part. It takes effect on the next check rather than instantly. It cancels nothing already resting on the exchange, because a resting lay at a price you approved is your cover. It is never withheld for non-payment.
One exception, and it is there to protect you. The automatic completion cancels your resting lay before it places the replacement. If you press Stop placement in the gap between those two steps, Arbie still places that one replacement, because stopping halfway would leave you holding a bookmaker bet with the cover taken off and nothing put back. It starts nothing new after that.
Racing auto-lay is a separate feature and a separate agreement. Arbie also has a racing feature that can place lays on your Betfair account automatically after you place a bookmaker bet on a race, reading the confirmation your own browser shows. It works before the jump only. It does nothing unless we have switched it on for your account and you have read and accepted its own separate agreement, and Stop placement stops it as well.
You must be 18 or older and legally able to hold the third-party betting accounts you choose to use. Membership is by invitation and we keep the membership small: we may decline an invitation request or a signup, and we do not have to give a reason for declining someone who is not yet a member. Once you hold a membership we may suspend or end it only in the circumstances set out in section 11, and where we end it for a reason other than serious misuse we refund the unexpired part of the period you have paid for.
Keep your Arbie password private; you are responsible for activity under your account. One account per person — sharing accounts or operating an account for someone else is not permitted, and is serious misuse under section 11.
Credentials for third-party services you connect remain yours, and we never store a password for any third-party service. For Betfair we store your Betfair username, your application key, a session token sealed with server-side encryption, and the available-balance and exposure figures we read from your Betfair account in order to size and check your bets. What we hold and why is set out in the Privacy Policy.
Membership is a paid subscription in Australian dollars, billed in advance for each period at the price shown when you join and on your billing screen. Arbie is not sold to the public: it is invitation-only, and the fee is set to recover what it costs to run the service for a small group rather than as a commercial price. Our plan is that at ten members Arbie moves onto a company footing, with the Betfair vendor arrangement that goes with it.
Every membership starts on a bank transfer (PayID) arrangement: nothing is charged automatically, we ask you each period, and we record the payment against your membership by hand. Where we have it enabled you can instead set up a PayPal subscription, which renews automatically each period until you cancel it.
You can stop at any time. If you pay through PayPal, cancel in your PayPal account or ask us; on the bank-transfer arrangement, tell us and stop paying. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period already paid for, and access continues until then.
If a payment is missed, nothing of yours is deleted. We may pause access to the paid parts of the service, and how long you have first depends on how you pay: on the bank-transfer arrangement, three days past the due date; on a PayPal subscription, up to ten days past the end of the period you have paid for while PayPal is still retrying the payment, and no grace period at all once PayPal reports the subscription cancelled, suspended or expired. At the time of writing that pause is built but not switched on, so a missed payment does not currently interrupt access; if we switch it on we will tell you first. Access resumes when payment does. Stopping Arbie placing bets, seeing your own positions and your own profit and loss, and paying us are never paused.
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, including remedies where the service fails a consumer guarantee. Beyond those rights: subscription periods already started are generally not refunded on change of mind, but if something on our side materially broke the service for you during a period, tell us — we will put it right or refund the affected period. If you cancel within 48 hours of your first ever payment and have not placed or logged a position, ask and we refund that first period in full.
The Refund Policy sets out the detail. Where it is more generous to you than this section, the Refund Policy applies.
You agree not to: resell or share access; scrape or redistribute the service's data; attempt to access another member's information; or use Arbie for any unlawful purpose.
How you bet on accounts in your own name is your business. Bookmakers may limit or close accounts they judge to be winning, and the way you bet affects that. Arbie makes suggestions about it — rounding a stake to a normal-looking figure, taking a slightly worse price, using a different one of your own accounts, resting an account that is drawing attention, or placing ordinary bets alongside the ones Arbie surfaces. Follow them or ignore them. Varying your own behaviour, on accounts held in your own name, is permitted under these terms and is not deception.
Falsifying or pooling identity is not permitted. You must not: open or use a betting account in a false name or in anyone else's name; let another person use your betting accounts or your Arbie account, or use theirs; place bets that are really someone else's; or use Arbie to co-ordinate staking across accounts that are not all your own. Arbie refuses to help with any of that, and doing it is serious misuse under section 11.
Bookmakers and exchanges are independent businesses with their own terms. They may limit, restrict, or close accounts at their discretion — that risk is inherent to the activity and is yours. Nothing Arbie suggests prevents it. We are not responsible for their availability, pricing, decisions, or your standing with them.
Betfair. Arbie is not a Betfair product, is not operated by Betfair, and is not endorsed by Betfair. You use Arbie with your own Betfair account and your own Betfair application key, and deposits and withdrawals are excluded from Arbie entirely — they happen only through Betfair's own site or app. Betfair will not be liable for any losses suffered by any party in relation to the use of Arbie.
We aim to keep Arbie available and accurate but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may change and improve features. If we remove a feature, or materially reduce what your subscription gets you, we will tell you in-app beforehand where we can, and you may cancel and have the unexpired part of the period refunded. If we discontinue the service entirely, unexpired subscription periods are refunded pro rata without you having to ask.
To the extent permitted by law (and never excluding rights under the Australian Consumer Law), our total liability in connection with the service is limited to re-supplying the service or refunding the fees you paid in the twelve months before the claim, whichever is greater. That limit does not apply to loss caused by our fraud or by a deliberate or reckless act or omission on our part.
We are not liable for your betting losses, for a bookmaker restricting or closing your account, or for decisions you make using information shown in the service. That exclusion does not cover loss caused by a defect in Arbie itself — for example a bet placed on numbers the software got wrong. Tell us if that happens: it is looked at on the facts, and nothing here limits a remedy the law gives you.
You may close your account at any time, and your records can be exported before closure on request.
We may suspend or end a membership only where: you materially breach these terms; we are required to by law or by a payment provider; or we discontinue the service. Before we suspend or end a membership for breach we will tell you what the problem is and give you a reasonable chance to fix it — unless the breach is one we cannot safely wait on, such as a reasonable belief that an account is being operated in a false name or in someone else's, or that the service or another member is at immediate risk. In that case we may suspend first and tell you straight away.
If we suspend or end your membership, the unexpired part of the period you have paid for is refunded. The one exception is serious misuse, which for these terms means only: operating or using a betting account in a false name or in someone else's name; sharing your Arbie account or your betting accounts, or using another person's; unlawful use; or deliberately attacking, scraping or reselling the service.
If you think a suspension or termination was wrong, tell us at hello@arbie.com.au. A person will review the decision and reply with reasons, and this does not affect any right you have to take the matter elsewhere.
We may update these terms. Every version carries a version number and the date it takes effect. For a material change we will tell you in-app at least 14 days before it takes effect; if it is not acceptable to you, cancel before that date and we refund the unexpired part of any period you have paid for. Continuing to use Arbie after that date means you accept the new version. Where a change is needed to comply with the law we may make it sooner, and we will say so when we tell you.
If you held an account before version 1.0 took effect, we will ask you to accept this version. Until you do, we will not rely on anything in it that is less favourable to you than the version it replaced.
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. If part of them is unenforceable, the rest still applies. Questions: hello@arbie.com.au.
